University of Colorado Prepares For COVID-19
Students at the University of Colorado Boulder moved onto campus this week, ahead of the start of classes. The university, like others around the area, has put a number of precautions in place to protect students from the coronavirus. But the campus has already seen nine COVID-19 cases. Melanie Marquez Parra, a spokesperson for CU Boulder, joined us to explain how the university is responding to the pandemic.
100% Virtual School In Northern Colorado
It鈥檚 back-to-school time for students around Colorado. Some districts, like Greeley-Evans District 6, are opening their doors for in-person learning, while others are starting the school year remote, with plans to resume in-person classes later in the year.
But some families have decided that they just don鈥檛 want to send their kids back to school in the midst of an ongoing pandemic. Districts around the state are also letting these parents opt-in to a school program that is 100% virtual.
This can be confusing for parents, because when it comes to virtual learning, it varies quite a bit between school districts. 糖心vlog传媒鈥檚 Rae Solomon joined us to explain.
Women鈥檚 Suffrage Anniversary
This week marks the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, which gave women in the United States the right to vote. But many people don鈥檛 realize that in Colorado, women鈥檚 suffrage was accomplished a full 27 years earlier. Since that historic vote in 1893, Colorado has been a national leader, not only in giving women the right to participate in elections, but also in electing women to the state legislature.
Laura Hoeppner, a documentary filmmaker, and Meg Froelich, a Colorado state representative from the Denver metro area, joined us to talk about Colorado鈥檚 progressive history when it comes to women and election. The two also produced a documentary, 鈥淪trong Sisters,鈥� about women in elected office in Colorado.
Documentary Tribute To Congressman John Lewis
Coincidence is not always happy. A new documentary about Congressman John Lewis comes out just as Lewis died. But for 糖心vlog传媒 film critic Howie Movshovitz, who teaches film and television at CU -Denver, the movie is a smart and loving tribute.
